Sharpsburg Piecemakers History

The Sharpsburg Piecemakers are a group of multi talented ladies formed in October of 1994. They have been meeting every Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the A&O Bridges Community Center for the past 25 years.

The Piecemakers started with 5 members and has grown to over 50 members. We work on our own projects each week. These projects are mostly quilting but, members also do applique, knitting, crocheting and embroidery. It is not uncommon to find members helping each other with their projects.

The group has contributed to several community projects but their prime project since February of 2014 has been to make quilts for the Homeless Veterans program at Fort McPherson in Atlanta. Each Veteran in the program receives a quilt for their bed and when they complete the program they take the quilt with them.

These quilts are sewn by the group on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Members bring their sewing machines and sew quilt tops. The group has many talented long arm quilters and they machine quilt these quilts. To date the Piecemakers have donated 360 quilts to this program. Many members make quilts on their own and donate them to the program.

We have a pot luck lunch on the first Tuesday of each even numbered month. Great food and recipes are exchanged by the members of the group. Each year in April members have the opportunity to go to a retreat at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center in Mansfield Ga. We spend Monday thru Thursday. The cost is very reasonable and it includes our lodging and meals and a large sewing room. It is a delightful get away.
